Printmaking

Alden and I did some printmaking this weekend. 

On Saturday Karen offered to open the press and teach us some techniques.

Alden and I went to the store and got a doughnut and then met up with Karen at 8am. I figure it is important to have ritual with this and the doughnut will be a key part.

Alden worked for about 45 minutes and then became distracted. I worked until 10, when Karen had a meeting. It was a nice morning. I hope we can do it again soon.

Variations 3

Artdogs exhibit Variations III (June 18 - July 14). Featured artists, Karen Adrienne, Nancy Barron, John Carnes, Kerstin Gilg, Karen Klitgaard, and Scott Minzy. Opening reception was held on Sunday June 20 from 4 - 6 PM. The exhibit investigates the ways in which six artists viewed and responded to separate objects that were selected and then exchanged.

Artwalk December 4

I took Alden to the Gardiner Artwalk. We actually went early so I could help set up some tree lights in McKay Park. Of course, Alden was not into hanging lights and his lack of interest hindered my usefulness considerably. I found my niche being a gopher for an hour, finding supplies and whatnot. In the end the lights came out very nicely, thanks to some unexpected help from some folks from the city. There is still more to do, but we got 5 of out the 10 rings completed.

The art walk was successful. Lots of people. lots of good food, and even some artists sold some works. Alden was annoyingly shy around groups of people, so when the crowds started getting large we would move to quieter surroundings. This little chess game continued throughout the event.
We ended up at Sarah's apartment (she lives on the top floor of Artdogs) which was closed to the public. Alden spent a lot of time that night playing with a totem-cat on her stairs. It can be seen in the background of the video.

Berry Patch

The construction on the house will begin properly this week. The ground floor of the Artdogs building has been renovated so I can redirect my efforts to the house. The last big piece was finishing the floors. After that there was the kick molding and a few odds and ends, but on the whole, the facility can be used. I figure the first step will be the upstairs bathroom.

The garden is going gangbusters and there have been no further deer incursions since the fence and soap and records went up. We are still at least a month away from any garden yield. However, the berry patch is producing like a rabbit on Clomiphene. We were told the raspberries were delicious, and they truly are. We didn’t do anything to the patch with our other projects and all… They should have been pruned back and tied to stakes so we could get between the rows. Right now there’s a big thorny clump we can only circle the outside of. Still, there is more than enough for all our berry-related projects.
